This project reimagines Chicago’s Aqua Tower in Miami’s hot–humid coastal climate (ASHRAE 1A), where temperatures rise above 32–35°C, humidity remains high year-round, and prevailing winds arrive from the southeast. In contrast to Chicago’s temperate continental climate—with its cold winters, large seasonal
swings, and strong diurnal variation—Miami experiences consistent heat, minimal temperature fluctuation, and intense ocean-driven moisture. While Chicago’s climate encourages winter solar gain, thermal-mass benefits, and seasonal façade modulation,
Miami demands continuous shading, minimized solar exposure, enhanced cross-ventilation, and reduced reliance on mechanical conditioning.
